Beyond the Infinite (Mass Effect role play)
OOC: I figured I'd go ahead and get started with the Mass Effect RP thread. For now this post is just establishing the setting time. Feel free to start your character wherever in the Milky Way galaxy since that is where Mass Effect takes place. Feel free to ask questions if you are unsure of anything.
IC:
Beyond the Infinite (a Mass Effect role play)
It is the year 2183 CE; 35 years have passed since humans first discovered the ancient Prothean ruins on Mars and ultimately thrusting them into the galaxy filled with various other intelligent alien races. Humans are still the newcomers to the galaxy which have been, for millennia, inhabited mainly by the Asari, Turians, Salarians, Krogan, Quarians, and many others.
Everyone is unaware of the threat of the reapers that wait in dark space; a threat that wipes out all living life in the galaxy every 50,000 years.
For now, ignorance is bliss and it is business as usual for the galaxy…

Re: Beyond the Infinite (Mass Effect role play)
The transport shuttle from the citadel was just now entering Palaven airspace. On board were military and diplomatic officials, Lisianthes included, returning from a meeting with the Turian councilor. She was just finishing up an e-mail to Lana before the ship arrived.
"Ship is about to dock. I'll see you in a couple of hours. Love, Sia."
She sent the e-mail off just as the shuttle pulled into port. She was exhausted after that long meeting, but knew she had a lot of following up to do before she could go home.

Ryla raised her shot glass with a sigh, looking at the pink liquid inside, "Here's to you, Riyuu." She whispered before drinking it down.
A Volus walked up to the bar next to her, "Are you the Traveler?"
"I am." Ryla said, "Are you..." She looked at him form a moment, "You're Mister Smith?"
"Yes, and if we are to continue this conversation, maybe we could make it more... believable. Perhaps I could pay you for a dance or to sit on my lap or--"
Ryla pulled out a gun, "in your dreams." she said, "Are you here to talk business?"
"You wish to travel to the asteroid field, despite the dangers and the restricted zones." Mister Smith said. "I trust you know I do not have a low fee?"
"But you can get me in. You can get me close to the wreckage?"
"I can, but my price has gone up." Mister Smith said, "I require you also give me the data you deceived on that last trip of yours. You mentioned you had data... it will of course just be used to help me more accurately navigate us to the wreckage."
Ryla grit her teeth. "I sell that information to no one." she hissed.

Lisianthes departed the shuttle shortly after it had docked. She was eager to get back to the naval base and get all this follow up work done so she could go home.
Outside of the space port were many taxi cabs much like you would find anywhere else there was a massive influx of people wanting to travel to another part of the city.
She climbed into the first available cab.
"To the naval base please." she said to the driver, after closing the door.
As the cab sped off toward its destination, Sia checked her omni tool for any important messages regarding the meeting, or from Lana.

"I will not say it again." Mister Smith said, "I demand the information as part of the payment. I will not take No for an answer."
"No." Ryla said, "Mister Smith, I appreciate your offer, but I can see now your price is far to high for me. Good day."
"You shouldn't be so hasty..." Mister Smith said, "My employer has informed me to use whatever force needed to get that data."
Ryla didn't need to turn back to know he had pulled out a weapon. She took another step before turning back, activating her bionics to throw the Volus back, and also push her closer to the door. Her aim was off and she ended up crashing through the window out onto the walkway. She rolled onto her feet and leapt away from the building, running down the path as fast as she could as she heard a blast behind her.
'Who knows I have this data?' Ryla began to ponder to herself.

Re: Beyond the Infinite (Mass Effect role play)
Sia was just about done checking her messages when the cab arrived at its destination. The advances in vehicle technology allowed for faster travel speeds at increased safety. So, a commute that normally took thirty minutes with older ground based vehicles, now only took a few minutes with the flying sky cars of today.
She paid her fare and departed the cab.
The naval base was like many other bases on Palaven; buildings scattered throughout the property housing offices, barracks, or machine shops. At the far end were several dry docks for the smaller frigate and destroyer class ships to dock for an overhaul.
Sia’s destination was one of the buildings that had offices for Admirals such as herself. As she headed into the building, enlisted personnel and junior officers saluted Sia as she passed by.
Inside her office was much like how any high ranking officer would arrange their office. A nice desk and chair sat in the middle; a large window behind the desk looked out toward the dry docks, the shelves along the side walls were adorned with books, awards, trinkets, and other items Sia collected during her naval career.
She sat down at the desk and turned on the computer terminal.

Re: Beyond the Infinite (Mass Effect role play)
Ryla panted, leaning against a wall and trying to catch her breath.
A thought occurred to her. Maybe this information was worth more than she thought. Perhaps if she were to leak part of the information, she could see just who would perk up their heads to look for the rest of it.
Two hours later she was entering this information via the terminal in her small ship, and submitting it into the right feeds to make sure the information cycled quickly. She could only hope to get the right bite before a bad one. Someone who wanted to know more about this information, but wouldn't kill her to get it would be preferable.
Ryla watched the monitor for a moment, watching as the video showed the fragment of an object far off in the distance, a strange image, most likely a ship, but unlike any that she, or any, had ever seen.
Soon she'd find out just what this information was worth to others.

Re: Beyond the Infinite (Mass Effect role play)
Sia had just finished the arduous task of writing reports, e-mailing certain people specific information, and logging data. She was just about to log out when a work related e-mail came in.
"Never fails." she muttered to herself as she opened the e-mail. It read:
"Ma'am, Intel found something you might want to take a look at."
She pondered for a minute, wondering what could be so urgent that needed her attention on this matter. Regardless of what the issue was, she was still obligated to address the issue. She clicked off the terminal and began heading down to the intelligence department.

Re: Beyond the Infinite (Mass Effect role play)
Ryla paced impatiently, she was sure someone would try to make contact by now. "What if this really wasn't all that important after all?" she thought aloud, "Maybe they saw it and decided it's not worth it." Content with this conclusion, she put her little ship on high security alert and lay down in her bunk, some shuteye was much needed in her opinion.

Re: Beyond the Infinite (Mass Effect role play)
Sia arrived at the entrance of the intelligence department's door still pondering what this whole issue was. She scanned her omnitool at the door's access terminal so it could verify her credentials. The door unlocked and she headed inside.
"I was just about to head home; this better be real important." she said to the junior officer who approached her.
"It is." the officer replied as he handed Sia a data pad.
She studied what she saw in the message for a good minute. It was hard to make out what she was seeing; the object in the video clip definitely wasn't any type of ship that she had seen before.
"Get in contact with whoever sent this; I want the validity of it verified." she ordered, handing the data pad back.
"Right away, ma'am." the officer replied before returning to his respective terminal.
Sia took this time to send a quick message to Lana.
"Gonna be a little late today."
She sent off the message and turned her attention to the task at hand, knowing this was probably going to be a long night.
